Coffeeshop Jamaica, located on Van Welderenstraat in Nijmegen, will be closed for three months following several explosive attacks.
The mayor ordered the closure to protect the safety of nearby residents and businesses.
The incidents began on October 17, when an explosion, possibly caused by heavy fireworks, damaged the shop’s facade around 1:45 a.m.
The following night, another explosion occurred, causing a brief fire and damage to windows and frames.
Residents described the blasts as “incredibly loud, like the Waalbrug bridge being blown up.”
The police are investigating and are asking witnesses to come forward. Coffeeshop Jamaica will remain closed until January 24, 2025, in hopes that the incidents will cease and neighborhood safety will be maintained.
